One of Europe’s largest Benedictine monasteries and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Catania’s Benedictine Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena (Monastero Benedettini di San Nicolò l'Arena), is among the city’s top attractions. The stunning monastery was founded in 1558 but almost completely rebuilt in the baroque style following an earthquake in the 18th century.

This is a walking tour to discover our culinary traditions and street food. The streets of Catania offer unique flavors, smells and colors, but to fully enjoy them you have to experience the city with a licensed local guide. The Catania diner is a real institution. A must in the bars and takeaways of the city is a cross between snacks and street food, a snack that can very well be a meal. The king of the table is the arancino, but there are many other specialties such as onion and Sicilian. And what about sandwiches with meatballs and scacciate? Or crispelle with ricotta and anchovy or honey? Together with the guide you will choose what to taste. Along the way it is mandatory to stop at a historic kiosk to taste the mandarin with lemon or the lemon and salt seltz. A cannoli or a cassatella will end our experience on a sweet note. You can find us at the GS infopoint in Piazza Duomo, on the corner with Via Merletta: come and visit us!

WalkingTour CATANIA - discovering the city of lava with a licensed guide
"We were very fortunate to have such a well informed tour guide. Of all our Viator walking tours she ranks at #1 or close to it. Shame on me for not writing down her name but we have 20+ tours. She was awesome and funny. Native of Catania. My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves."..."

Culture and Street Food: Catania on the table
"Our guide met us on schedule and proceeded to lead us through many historical sites, always providing insight into the history of the site, and frequently using his large keyring to gain access to sites closed to the public during the pandemic. The food tasting that ended our tour was also excellent"..."

CSTRents - Catania Segway PT Authorized Tour
"We have done quite a few Segway tours and find it a great way to get around a city and gave fun at the same time. Our guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgable. We were accompanied by the owner who took the lead and ensured our safety whilst crossing roads. The directions for the puck up point were confusing. The main place to look for is Porta Udiza which is the entrance arch at the far end of the Piazza Duomo. This was our only issue with the paperwork as roads and locations in Italy can be very confusing."..."
