Dubrovnik is a natural choice for visitors to Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. But the UNESCO-listed city isn’t the only Dalmatian destination worth your time. Consider taking a day trip to explore the region’s historical remains, scenic islands, and hideaway coves.
For insight into the history of Revelin Fortress, and to combine your visit with attractions such as Sponza Palace, sign up for a walking tour. If you’re short on time, take advantage of multi-day tours that include Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-listed Old Town along with other Balkan highlights. Ready for a break from all the steps and stone? Hop in a boat and take in the views of the fortress and city walls from the sea.
Things to Know Before You Go
Revelin Fortress is a must-see for history buffs and photographers.
The fortress isn’t wheelchair-accessible.
Some tours include entrance to Revelin Fortress; otherwise, there’s a fee to enter.
The exhibitions and nightclub carry their own admission fees.
How to Get There
Located on the eastern side of the Old Town, the fort stands close to Ploče Gate and the Old Port. As parking is limited, it’s best to get to Old Town by public transit or private transfer. Most city buses—including lines 1, 3, and 6—stop outside Pile Gate.
When to Get There
The ground-floor exhibitions are available every day except Wednesday and national holidays. Culture Club Revelin is open every night from June through October (high season), and on weekends only for the rest of the year. During the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the sprawling terrace hosts a range of performances and cultural events.
Dubrovnik’s Archaeological Museum
The two exhibitions inside Revelin Fortress belong to the city’s Archaeological Museum. Take the opportunity to learn more about the stronghold’s architectural origins and see medieval-era artifacts. Tickets also include entry to Dubrovnik’s other city museums, including the Maritime Museum in St. John’s Fortress and the Cultural History Museum in the Rector’s Palace.
