Book your desired tour option, and meet your guide in central Buda. Your tour includes tastings equivalent to breakfast and lunch, so come hungry!

Then, set out on your tour of the inner Buda district, a quiet residential neighborhood often overlooked by visitors, and replete with locally loved culinary spots.

Learn about the area’s architecture and multi-layered history, from its Roman roots to the Ottoman, WWII, and Communist eras, and hear how it's favored by locals for having some of Budapest’s best thermal baths.

Explore by foot and public tram, and enjoy about four to six stops at markets, restaurants, and shops to taste local specialities. Trawl a market where farmers and artisans sell fresh produce, jams, juices, cheeses, and high quality meats from prized Hungarian species. Stop for food tastings, and enjoy a shot of Hungary's beloved palinka brandy.

Visit a tucked-away restaurant for a shared meal of traditional Hungarian dishes with wine, and then head for an old-time, family-run bakery to enjoy a home-style dessert and sweet treat.

Finally, enjoy a coffee at a Soviet-era café hardly changed in decades, listening to tales of Communist rule as you sip.

Your tour then concludes in central Buda.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Buda
Since Buda is not high on tourist radars, the eateries, markets, and shops here have been designed with locals in mind. We’ll take you to the places where we like to go. We’ll visit a neighborhood market (one of the best in the city!), where farmers and artisans from the countryside come to sell fresh produce, carefully bottled jams, juices, preserves, and more. Several butchers here specialize in indigenous Hungarian animals, with high-quality meat from mangalica and grey cattle on offer. Cheese mongers offer an array of delicious cheese made in the local styles. For lunch we will feast on authentic home-style Hungarian dishes at a few tiny eateries where the cooking is grandmotherly, as is the décor. We’ll visit a gem of a pastry shop, run by the same family for generations, where the pastries taste as beautiful as they look. When our feet begin to tire, we’ll have coffee at a Socialist-style coffee shop which has barely changed over the past several decades.

Stop At:
Feny Utca Market
The best neighborhood food market on the Buda side. We'll visit some of our favorite vendors, and have several tastings here.

Great friendly and interesting tour

George (forgive my spelling) was a brilliant guide with knowledge of everything from the history of the city, to history of the food, and also the current circumstances both in Budapest and wider Hungary. It felt like a personal tour with a friend and I would definitely recommend the tour and guide for travellers.

Andrea was our our guide and she was great! We had multiple good food experiences at the Buda market, a fabulous pastry shop and a real grandmother style cooking Hungarian restaurant. We sampled Palinka and Unicum. Wow! We finished the tour satiated by good food and information about Budapest.
