What could have been bad ended up being amazing! Our van died …it happens in heat (we live in extreme heat so not new to us) but, what came from it was the most memorable moment of our entire trip !! Fortunately the battery died by a taxi stand. We met the cutest local young boys who gave us oranges and we gave them sweetbreads. We walked the 1.3 miles to the nearest local Mayan town chemex. Mando was an amazing guide, teaching us mayan along the way which we practiced to greet locals. Cars literally slowed to wave and the town gave us warm smiles as we walked to the center. The local church built in 1760 was unlocked just for us to view. The town was so gracious and few visitors ever make it into this local authentic mayan gem. With a degree in Latin American studies, it was a cultural and historical dream no textbook could provide. A prompt replacement van was sent. We actually asked the van to give us more time to explore and appreciate the local Pueblo. After, we continued to Chichen Itza. A location I have been wanting to visit for decades. Our guide has been touring this 7th wonder of the modern world for 30 years! He was rich with knowledge and stories that are not found on google. We soaked up every minute and detail. He swiftly led us past the huge long lines so we didn’t have to wait. That in itself was worth every penny! Afterwards, we had the most amazing mayan tacos with handmade tortillas. Having taken a cooking class when living in Mexico, these were beyond exceptional. Pressed for time, the original ceynote we were to visit was closing. As you say in Mexico “No worries”, and we certainly did not. We followed a motorcycle to another local ceynote with a rope to jump in with. The lines were short at the end of the day , allowing us more privacy and immediate jumps into the refreshing natural pond. What a day! What could have been a disaster ended up being the highlight of our trip! With 4 children in tow ages 10-16, everyone loved our day! We are experienced global travelers and would highly recommend!

One of the best travel experiences we’ve had!

Our day started very early with a very friendly Armando and our driver, Rafa. We had a really long drive to the first cenote we visited, but it was such an enjoyable trip - lots of conversation and laughter. The cenote was beautiful, and definitely worth the drive. After that, we headed to Chichen Itza where Armando had arranged a private tour for us with a very knowledgeable guide who answered all of our (many, many, many) questions. By this point, Armando had started to feel like, if not a member of our family, at least a really good friend. After Chichen Itza, we stopped for a fantastic lunch in Valladolid where we had some local specialties. We were fed until all of us – even our hungry dad - were satisfied. After eating, we got to make an unexpected stop at a chocolate museum that we spotted across the street. After that, we went to another cenote where we all got to swim and had an amazing time! Our day ended back at our hotel, long after we should have because we all had so much fun we didn’t want the day to end. If we could, we would have had Armando and Rafa stay with us for the rest of our vacation. Definitely a 20 out of 10! It didn’t feel like we were on a paid-for tour, it felt like a local friend was showing us his favorite spots. We would definitely recommend this!

Toller Tag. Hat alles bestens geklappt. Vielen Dank.
