Start your day in Maui with a breathtaking sunrise view of the island from atop its highest peak on this daybreak excursion to Mount Haleakala. This exceptional sunrise experience is sure to be a highlight of your trip to Maui.

Start your trip in the dark of the very early morning with a pickup at your Maui hotel. You’ll then continue by air-conditioned minibus on a scenic drive passing the Kula District. and Maui’s rare silversword plants.

Arriving at the Haleakala National Park, steadily climb by minibus up Haleakala to 9,740 feet elevation to the Visitor Center. You’ll see Maui’s rare and endemic silversword plants that poignantly bloom once, then perish. You’ll also witness the sunrise from the Visitor Center area. The views from Haleakala are nothing short of spectacular. Writer Mark Twain, upon visiting the peak in 1866, wrote that the volcano was “the most sublime spectacle I ever witnessed and the memory of it will remain with me always.”

Observe the first rays of the new day slowly creep across the distant horizon. Soon the sky fills with the majestic glow of the new day, and the warm beams of light creep across the island of Maui, illuminating the land below. It’s a sight you’re sure to remember for many years to come.

At the end of your morning sunrise experience you’ll head to breakfast at a local restaurant and then receive a drop-off back at your Maui hotel, tired but thrilled by your amazing morning trip.

Luck of the draw
Jasmine_E
, Dec 2021
Bad weather at the viewing point/thick fog strong winds, cold, but that was no fault of the tour company. The chances for a “sunrise” are understood before paying. What I view with less equanimity and found totally unnecessary was the interminable chatter of the driver—-especially on the way to the viewing point when it was dark and most of us were trying to sleep. A good part of the “info” along the ascending route was of little interest/ not visible and I wondered why the driver thought that steady stream chatter was engaging. On the summit, when other drivers stood by their buses and afforded their clients to get out of the wind and the cold, our driver was not to be found. The way down the mountain was similarly filled with interminable and not very interesting comments. The driver seemed to be a nice man, but perhaps he might improve his tip level if he was more aware that his constant enroute-to-the-summit discourse was not so welcome, and he was more selective, and less prolix on the way down. Which is all to say: weather and driver, luck of the draw…

Thank you for the feedback which we have shared with the driver's manager. Live narration allows the driver to share their knowledge with guests, but we are sorry to hear that it was interpreted as disruptive. We appreciate the opportunity to improve on the tour experience and hope you enjoyed your visit to the islands. Mahalo!

Sunrise was beautiful. Guided trip is best way to do this, including seeing a lot of the island on the drive. Preston, our guide, was terrific. He provided a lot of information and helpful tips.

In the Dark

We were scheduled for pickup from our hotel at 2:30 AM. We had no communication from the company. Finally at 3:10 AM we got someone on the phone who said the driver was running late and we were the next pickup. It would have been nice if the company had called us to notify us that the driver was still coming. We could not even find printed on an email the pickup location so we were afraid there had been a miscommunication on our part. We were picked up at 3:20 AM without apology or explanation. In fact, the driver, Dino, was abrupt in his dealing with us. Dino spoke in a monotone voice and repeated several stories multiple times. He lacks personality. The sunrise was absolutely breathtaking and worth every penny. Breakfast was adequate and the service at the restaurant was attentive. I would do this tour again.

Watching the sky turn colors as the sun was starting to approach. Once I saw the sun peeking through it was amazing!! Freezing cold and windy but our tour guide got us there early so we had a spot in front so the down side was standing in the freezing cold, but it was well worth the experience!!we enjoyed our guide Alberto aka: Al Pacino. He really was fun and had a lot of cool History to share and fun anecdotes to make the trip memorable. I could feel the pride he has for Hawaii ❤️🌺

Professor Maui (NY Edition)

Our tour guide, Wayne, was amazing! His knowledge of the local area and eateries, history, geology, plants and culture will blow you away. But he will also be the first to say he’s not a native islander and point you in the right direction. The breakfast was nothing to write home about. They could just hand out granola bars. Everything else was great

It’s incredible at 10,000 feet. Also very cold, especially if wind is blowing!! The sunrise is gorgeous through and on top of the clouds. Once in a lifetime trip!

Extremely overpriced

Only reason we did this was because we thought we needed a reservation to park. Turns out you don’t and You can do it yourself for 30$ parking fee. We paid 400$. Breakfast was cold and low quality.

We are sorry to hear that you felt dissatisfied with the tour experience. You are correct that guests are allowed to make reservations and visit Haleakala on their own. Many book with tour operators as their preference is not to drive and to relax and enjoy live narration about the history and culture of Maui. Mahalo.

The view alone was great...

The view alone was great it but it is pricey. Breakfast was ok. For the price I would have expected a better quality meal.
