This activity will end right where it started.
Begin your trip with pickup from your select Naples hotel and hop aboard your coach toward Pompeii. Once buried under a blanket of ash from Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD, the city wasn't unearthed until the 18th century.

As you enter (own expense), follow your guide through the ruins and learn the fascinating history behind the ancient city. Pass excavations of the Teatro Grande, which once housed up to 5,000 spectators, and the Forum.

Continue to a family-run corals and cameo factory to learn more about the jewelry-making process. Afterward, walk to the 18th-century Ristorante Vesuvio for a delicious, Italian-style lunch.

Journey next to the coastal town of Ercolana, where the ruins of Herculaneum reside, another town struck during the infamous eruption. Though Pompeii is more widely-known, Herculaneum hosts a wealth of archaeological treasures. Enter (own expense) and explore at leisure, admiring the ancient monuments, preserved mosaics and fossils nearly 2,000 years old.

Your day trip will conclude with transportation back to your original departure point.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Pompeii Archaeological Park
At the time of the dramatic eruption, Pompeii counted about 11.000 inhabitants, while Herculaneum had a population of some 5.000 people. A number of emperors and aristocrats had their holiday villas in these cities. One day, in 79 AD, several meters of ashes buried the whole area in a matter of few hours. Centuries later, in 1748, under the Bourbons government, excavation works started. The discovery was greeted with enthusiasm as it added great wealth to the kingdom and inspired the neoclassicism movement in Europe. Nowadays, the ruins of Pompeii are amongst the most visited archaeological sites in the world, while Herculaneum is renewed for its Villa dei Papiri containing a library of over 1800 papyruses. Included in this tour there is a stop to a Cameos and Corals workshop, to learn more about this ancient art-craft, for which the Neapolitan school is still considered of great importance. Cameos in particular are carved sea shells representing scenes of mythological deities.

Learned a lot from the archeologist.t

The pick up was a little confusing because we picked up at a lot of places and they kept switch vehicles for some of the tourist. However, the actual tour went off without a hitch. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and pleasant. The food was good as well.

Tour guide was good. Pickup was messy

Pickup was messy. It was raining hard and the hotel pickup area did not even have cover from the rain. Pickups were disorganized and we had to drive to another location to wait for people to pickup one of the guides into another car. Guides did not speak at all for the ride and just chatted with each other. Actual tour was better and guide had good nuggets of information. Most likely will not recommend this tour though.

A nice day out

The bus driver very friendly and staff on bus very friendly. We picked up alot of people so the bus seemed to take forever to get out of Naples and Naples traffic. We had perfect weather for seeing the ancient ruins. The guided tour of Pompeii not ideal as the audio to the ear phones kept cutting out so we couldn't always hear what the guide was saying. The tour group was too big and tour was done in both English and Italian meaning it took twice as long and made the tour guide's dialogue harder to follow. There was also alot of standing around waiting for things to be organised. The standing around time could have been better spent as break time as it was a hot day so going without a drink refreshment break from 8:30 am when bus picked us up til 2:15pm when we finally got our lunch break was too long. I was parched! The tour should advise to bring a bottle of water or offer bottles of water on the bus like other tours do. The Herculaneum tour very good. The tour was done only in English and could be heard better and the ruins themselves were better preserved than Pompeii and not as big an area to walk around.

We had a great time at this tour! Our guide Silvana was passionate about her job and made sure we had a good time walking around and learning the history behind those sights. I wish there were more professionals like her! Food was ok but the portions were ridiculously small. I suggest the office take care of this.

We wee picked up by black car service to our bus then to pompei. Pompei tour was short but precise. We would have preferred more Tim in pompei as it is a huge site but we seen a lot. Then Herculaneum which was amazing. Sylvannia, our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the site and the tour was thorough.

Easy to book on line and to get the necessary information. The trip is well organised and covers the main points of such a visit. Our guide was engaged and did a good work. The start of the day picking up the rest of the participating visitors was although a bit complicated and too long, but we did come away at the end.

Great comparison of the 2 sites... but avoid the Cameo retailer

Chose this over the cruise ships vastly overpriced shore excursion. After the initial lack of communication and attendance by the coordinator at the advised time (welcome to Italy 😁) all went well. Pompeii was better than expected and not as crowded as we were warned about. God tour if not a little rushed. However, avoid the Cameo factory and there overpriced rip off. Herculaneum was even better and is a lot quieter in terms of tourists but far more intact and will give you a real sense of life in the times

The pick-up and transportation were fine. Lunch was also very good. Pompeii was interesting but Herculaneum felt so much more real . In my opinion, if you only could do one of these tours, I suggest that you visit Herculaneum. Sylvana the guide was excellent with her knowledge and friendliness.

We spent the right amount of time at each site. We had a great lunch experience. The only minus was we left a medical device on the bus and did not recover it.
