Travel from Rome to Tivoli by air-conditioned coach to start your day trip. As you travel, listen to your guide’s commentary about Tivoli, a historic town in the Monti Tiburtini hills. A prestigious vacation spot in the days of Ancient Rome, the town is now popular for its two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este.

Your first stop in Tivoli is at Hadrian’s Villa for a walking tour. Hear how the villa belonged to Emperor Hadrian who desired an unassuming vacation home as a tribute to his lover. By modern standards, his ‘humble abode’ could be considered a town in its own right.

The ruins of the emperor’s impressive estate consist of more than 30 buildings, and you’ll see the highlights as you explore. Discover the complex ruins of the old imperial palace as well as thermal baths, temples, libraries and subterranean passages that are wide enough for vehicles.

Enjoy lunch at your own expense, and then continue to Villa d'Este: explore the former Benedictine convent, and see why many consider the villa to be one of the finest of the Renaissance era.

As you explore, hear how Villa d’Este was built as an opulent abode for the son of Lucretia Borgia, a 15th-century duchess who attracted drama and gossip wherever she went. Make your way past the Fountain of Neptune, and wander through the gardens to see waterfalls, fountains and centenary trees.

Leave Villa d’Este after your tour, and then relax on your journey back to Rome.
Stop At:
Villa Adriana
This enchanting day trip from Rome begins with a 40-minute bus ride to Hadrian’s Villa. The vastness of Hadrian’s estate is a sight that will surely impress. The Emperor chose to build his residence outside the city in a place rich in water, in order to build the famous Canopus, one of the most preserved sites left in the complex. The statues surrounding this pool of water create stunning reflections on its surface, beautifully surrounded by luscious green gardens

Villa d'Este
We will leave the alluring ruins of the 2nd century A.D. far behind as we travel on to the 14th century to our second destination, Villa d’Este - one of the most beautiful Renaissance villas in Italy. This splendid palace, with its extraordinary gardens filled with hundreds of fountains, will leave you feeling captivated. Bernini’s monumental Neptune’s Fountain is considered the most impressive, its water jets reaching a height of 10 meters. Not to say that the Central Fountain and the Oval Fountain won’t leave you equally in awe

Great tour Awful included lunch
, Oct 2021
Great tour of Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este DO NOT BUY the lunch included tour. Food was awful. Inedible. A total waste of money.
Splendid sights with average guide experience
, Oct 2021
Beautiful sights to see and we were happy to tour the Hadrian villa and Tivoli gardens and fountains. The experience would have been improved with more context on emperor Hadrian and Sabina. There u it a plenty of interesting material which we read afterward to make the visit even more interesting. We did get the basics from our guide but more historical info would have made experience more alive. Bus was in poor condition. Lunch site choice was adequate.
Full day
, Oct 2021
A full day tour of two villas which required a short bus ride between the two. Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful. I think it needed maybe less time at Hadrian's Villa so that there could have been a little more time after lunch before seeing Villa D'Este. It felt rushed as the guide had a timetable to keep.
A well spent day outside Rome

Hadrians villa was very interesting place to visit and such a huge site. Villa d'Este is so beautiful that you loose your ability too speak. Our guide clearly knew what he was talking about. The garden is absolutly marvelous and the fountains are spectacular.
Memorable experience in Tivoli

Truly money well spent. Everything taken care of efficiently and competently. Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este are worth the day trip to experience a different vibe from that of Rome. Giuseppe was the cherry on top. Couldn't have asked for a better guide. That man makes the tour!
UNESCO site worth every moment and more

Confusion on the meeting point, however this UNESCO site is definitely worth a day. Just wish it was actually a little longer…

A great trip for a day
, Sep 2021
I was really a great day, thanks to Giuseppe who even made it better with his guidance and information
Great sites and guide, no time.
, Sep 2021
Booking the tour was easy, the sites were amazing, and our guide Giuseppe was knowledgeable, and engaging the entire time with everyone which was impressive. That said, there are Pompeii and Herculaneum tours that are up to 12-hours long, and this one needs more time. Nine hours? 12 hours? I am not sure but a person could spend nine hours in total at both sites easily. Giuseppe was 5-star but because of the lack of time, I am giving the tour 4-stars. Would I recommend this tour? Absolutely. I suggest staying two nights in Tivoli. The town has a lot to offer you will never see.
The beauty of Tivoli, both raw and majestic
, Sep 2021
We had a great tour and the crowds were not bad because of the lower amount of travels. We felt very safe and were following the guidelines. The Emperor Hadrian's ruins were so impressive, you get a good idea on how large the estate was and how opulent it must have been. Then seeing the Villa in town was stunning and amazing. The water gardens were just fantastic and to think that there are no pumps, how they figured all this out so long ago is impressive. Our guide, Joe (Giuseppe), was a local from Tivoli and he was very passionate about sharing the history with us using the "magic book"! If you book, you should add the lunch option because they do a nice job of picking a local place. Make sure you have your camera or cell phone to take pictures, especially at the villa as it is just gorgeous!
Great tour outside of Rome!
