Additional Info
- Confirmation will be received at time of booking
- Not wheelchair accessible
- Not recommended for travelers with back problems
- Not recommended for pregnant travelers
- No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
- This type of itinerary, in relation to the type, is suited to people in good physical health, not suffering from particular diseases (breathing ones, or hypertension).
- The excursion could be subjected to variations at the discretion of the Guides, or it could be interrupted in case of changes of the environmental, climatic or volcanic conditions, so as to undermine the safety of the entire group.
- For the success of the excursion and for its correct carrying out, it’s good to know perfectly your health conditions and, if necessary, let the Guide know about them, in order to reduce the occurrence of any problems and to avoid any risks.
- The excursion will be carried out according to the limits established by the ordinance in force published by the competent authorities in case of volcanic explosions, the volcano guides must respect it. In this case the guides must stop where it is still safe to arrive for the safety of the entire group.
- The route consists of the ascent and the walking along the crater edges, this may cause dizziness to susceptible individuals.
- We recommend not to use contact lens, because of the exhaled volcanic gases and of ash. This last one could easily cause problems, if pushed.
- The trekking requires a discrete preparation on a physical level. Being a path that develops at high altitude, it will be easy to accuse symptoms of fatigue. It is required attention, since it is a volcanic active area, subjected to constant gaseous exhalations and composed by a soil constituted by inconsistent and unstable rocks.
- Without adequate shoes you are not covered by insurance.
- Pregnant women who have passed the third month of pregnancy are not allowed to take part to any excursion activity.
- Because of the continuous and unpredictable evolution of the volcanic activity, the excursions could undergo variations, or, in extreme cases, be cancelled, at the discretion of the guide for safety reasons.
- Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 30 travelers

MT Etna hike

We were a group of 6 friends and we enjoyed very much the tour. We thought the hike was done at a very good pace to accommodate for everyone in the group, with plenty of breaks where our knowledgeable guide Nikos gave us detailed explanations regarding the history and formations of the volcano. Strongly recommend this tour for a once in a life experience on MT Etna!

Unique Etna experience

Fantastic tour, so well organised from start to finish. Really clear instructions on where to join and what was / wasn’t included. You have to pay 50 euros per person for the cable car and jeep on top of the tour fee but you pay this to the tour guide on arrival and they sort everything out. So it’s hassle free. Also the guides kit you out with really good boots, jackets and helmets before you go up.
It was great to go up Etna so early in the morning - we felt like we were the first group up. The guide, Nikos, was excellent, well paced, stops just when needed and interesting explanations of the volcanic activity. It’s an amazing feeling when you first walk over the crater edge and have the first view inside.
I would say this is not an easy walk. Probably 10K all in all and some tough uphill zigzags and downhill skidding. We have an 11 year old and he managed fine though (better than his parents)! We arrived back down at the foot of the cable car around 3pm.
A fabulous and unique experience. Highly recommended.

This tour was more than expected! Nicos, our english speaking guide, was wery knowlegdable and helpful/kind. He explained a lot about voulcanic activity and guided us well to cool viewpoints throughout the trip. The vulcano was super impressive, and this was definitly worth the time and money. The best part of my trip to Sicily.
Just a small note: 5 hours is not the case. From the meeting-time at 08.30 it took about 6,5 hour until we were down at the parking lot again.
Amazing tour and great guide

Highly recommended tour, where you have a chance to reach the 3300m and see more than in many of the other Etna tours. We had a good weather, so the views were fantastic and our volcanologist guide was very knowledgable and passionate about the volcano.
We walked around 10,5km and almost 5h in the mountains. Would recommend wearing sports clothes and long pants as you will get some sand in your shoes on the way down, but it's lots of fun as well.
A beautiful and interesting day

Interesting, informative and wonderful experience. Hard to describe the sensation of being so high and hearing the wind whistle throughout the walk - you just gotta go! Pack lunch- whatever you bring tastes even better eating outdoors and after the hardest part.
Wear sturdy boots/ otherwise you'll have to rent theirs (only 5 E) pack lightweight gloves to help with hanging onto lava rock when needed for balance.
great tour with great Guide's but there is a caveat

well organized tour, Guide's were great and fulfilled our expectations. our Guide for the english party expalined a lot and gave us a good impression about the Etna history. But there is a caveat as the tour description tells an excursion to the top of Mount Etna 3300 meters...well...since last eruption in July 2019 the top of mount Etna is closed due to constant activity. We got a whatsapp at evening before the tour - and after free cancelation deadline - telling because of explosions we go as high as possible: 3000m
in my opinion this is not fair to the customers offering a tour to 3300m by knowing the area is closed and just sending a note such short before the tour. we passed a "road closed" barrier with the comment being kind of illegal on track now. And that barrier lasted not since a day...
@Guide Vulcanologiche Etna Nord: be fair and inform
@any interessed: inform about accessibility to / activity of Etna
Response from Host , Oct 2019
Dear Steffen.
We are glad that you enjoyed our tour and thanks for your review . In our trip advisor profile is possible to read the “supplementary informations” (we are the only ones to write it) and we have written : “The excursion will be carried out according to the limits laid down by the ordinance in force published by the competent authorities in case of volcanic explosions”. All the volcano guides have to respect these rules of course. The Italian law provides that these professional figures are the only ones qualified to lead groups on the active volcanoes that’s means that our guides may pass the “road closed” it’s their responsibility, but they have to observe the volcanic activity each moment and if it persist or is lower then the previous hours or days logically they prefer to go as hight as possible (3050-3100-3200 mt it may vary according to the volcanic activity) just to satisfy our customers.
Naturally if one volcanic activity is over without any risks for everyone we may reach the top every day without problems , but safety first.
Very memorable experience

Our guide, Daniel, who has so much knowledge of Etna, is the reason I would recommend tour. Weather was excellent so our views were amazing. The trek was manageable for someone with no experience in such an area although Daniel was good to reassure when I was a little nervous. Everyone in our group had questions that Daniel could answer easily. Best excursion on our trip to Sicily.
Highlight of our trip!

Amazing adventure to the top of Mount Etna. Our guide Daniele brought us to the height limit and very knowledgeable. Lots of interesting facts of the volcano and wonderful view of the city. Really recommend it if you visit Catania. We had a good size of group with different age group and we all managed it. Make sure you have got the right gear.

L’escursione è stata molto interessante, accompagnata da piacevoli spiegazioni della nostra guida, Vincenzo, che ha saputo rendere accattivanti anche le pause per “riprendere fiato”.
Attrezzatura fornita adeguata, organizzazione efficiente. Paesaggio lunare e ottima compagnia.
Peccato solo aver trovato un tempo pessimo con bassissima visibilità: spero di poterci tornare!

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
